In 997, redline for sure!

Now, in my old S4, with a chipped engine, there was an argument to short shift to fall under the sweet spot of Torque, most because the chipped engine had a HUGE Torque spike in mid-range that fell off dramatically over 5500 RPM, and my Dyno also showed Max HP was not at redline, but around 5500... so just to ensure you have the most HP you'd short shift to go BACK to the sweet spot in the next gear. Not the case in our engine.

Upshift when the power and torque starts to fall off, in the mid to high 6's. If there isn't much room left before the braking zone and you can avoid a shift, take it up to the redline.

If max acceleration is what your looking for, shift it just like the PDK in Launch Mode.

I think Porsche's engineers know a thing or two about acceleration.

I've highlighted the answer to your question.

With a 911 I do believe that maximum acceleration is achieved by shifting close to the redline. But, with many gasoline engines, max acceleration is achieved by shifting well ahead of the redline. As said earlier......it depends.

My Speed3 needs to be shifted well below redline to maximize acceleration. Power drops off dramatically anywhere near redline, almost as if the Turbo shuts down.

The 928 accelerated best when shifted at redline. At 4500 RPM the car really came alive and the engine continued to pull hard to redline.

So the answer is really dependent on the car.

Scratch my last. Shift at redline if you have the space. Tried this out today and hit a couple of extra mph at the end of the main straight by taking the engine all the way up to redline before shifting.
