Do you guys think it would be a good idea to change the plugs on the 9900 mile 07 I'm getting? All the fluids have been changed, I just wondered if the low miles can hurt the plugs ?
Car runs and revs smooth.
TIA

There's a better chance of your mechanic fouling something up while changing out the plugs than of anything actually being wrong with the plugs. The plugs will still be working well at 60k. They're only changed then to avoid old age problems with plugs fracturing and dropping pieces into the cylinder.

But check the owners manual. In some cases Porsche recommends plugs changes based on miles *or* time. The thinking is -- I suspect -- that after so many years if the plugs are not changed one or more might seize in the head and then damage the head when the plugs are finally removed.
(IIRC, Porsche has eliminated this change the plugs on time schedule but check the owners manual and even contact the service manager to confirm. When I took my 03 Turbo a few months ago (with around 35K miles) in to have its plugs changed due to time -- they were supposed to be changed after 4 years -- I was informed the change the plugs on time requirement had been removed for this model. But I went ahead and had them changed anyhow.)
Sincerely,
Macster.

Just checked the "Major Maintenance" list and it says Plugs every 4 years or 60,000 miles. So yes, it is probably time to change the plugs based on age. Actually, it's a required maintenance item, so they should be doing it anyway. If it's a CPO car, I can't imagine it would pass without the dealer doing the required maintenance.

Makes no matter, read the Major Maintenance chart I posted. Plugs to be changed every 4 years and to me that means an 07 should have new plugs now (4 years later).

I think Porsche expects the car being driven a reasonable amount in 4 yrs. I like the idea of having a fresh set of plugs ..
I'm going to speak to them in the morning, it may just be easier to have it done now while its still at my shop awaiting the dealership picking it up.
One of those deals , where you want the car to be perfect and unharmed I guess.

I believe the 4yrs may cover concerns that the plugs seize up in the heads. If that happens it would be a costly repair. I tried to have mine done last year and the dealer suggested waiting until this summer. I will get it done in August when I get my annual oil change/maintenance done.
