New McLaren MP4-12C paddle system
The new McLaren MP4-12C paddle assembly has a pivot at the center, so when one pulls on one side the other side goes down. If one pushes the LEFT, it will change up, because it is the same as pulling the right side. If one pushes the RIGHT, it will change down, like pulling the left side.
Upshift - Pull Right paddle OR Push Left paddle
Downshift - Push right paddle OR Pull Left paddle
It is a (reverse L-to-R) redundant system, not dissimilar from PAG's (directions reversed left/right).

it looks pretty good but some of the design, seems to me, looks like it will look dated quite soon

sounds interesting, not sure if i like the paddle syste, if you are going to have a push/pull paddle then just give us one huge one on the right side like rally cars... pull for up push for down...
and PLEASE tell me they are fixed to the column... that was porsche's main mistake imo.

The MP4-12C is, almost certainly, going to go straight to the head of the class upon its launch. Can't wait to see it pitched against the 458 and the latest (and most excellent) Gallardos.

Isnt the Paddle system the same employed in F1? While looks are subjective, there's no denying the performance. Even the most hardened Ferrari fans will admit that.
Im most impressed w/ the CF Monocoque (spelling?) and its low weight.

Yes - it's based on the McLaren F1 paddle shifter. It's designed so that the driver can up- or downshift with either hand. FWIW, I'm still good with the PDK buttons. Once you've used them for a while, they become second nature.
