Default Can i replace the gear pattern on top of my shift ****?

I did this on my old 944 and now have the 997 with a combination aluminum/plastic shift ****. The 6-gear pattern is on top on what looks like a circular disc built into ****. I asked salesperson if I could replace with a porsche emblem and he said not possible. this is hard for me to believe. have others replaced it?

Why? The gear pattern is there for a reason. If you need someone to drive your car who never drove it before, it is a good thing to have that info there... especially to learn where the R direction is (which varies from brand to brand).
