It's Official new 911 Black Edition is 2012 model year

I heard the same story today, two 2012 completely different models selling at same time. I have heard of overlaps before with the premium models. Is this the first time the base model has continued with the introduction on a new base model?

Thats exactly right - the 996 C4S and the turbo's were out at the same time as the 997's into 2005. If I remember correctly, you couldnt buy a 997 C4S or Turbo right away in 2005 anyways - so there were 2 models at the same time. I dont think this implies that the 991 will be a 2013. It may but this doesnt make it so.

The whole idea of this "special model" is silly, but it seems to come at a pretty good discount for those options (although I could see dealers not negotiating as much on price because it is a "special/limited" edition.

This is not a limited edition. In all of last year PCNA sold a total of 5700 997's in all models. Now they are flooding the market (1911 cars) with this low end well equipped non "S" car. If they sell all these SE's, it will be a record year for non S 911's. With all the other 997 models sold in black, it is possible that 50% of all 997's will be black for the year. Now how special will the car be? It will make any colour except black, special.

just see this post, not my forum by the way .. it is very interesting ...
from my point of view, porsche is not longer very interesed in their fans ... or the cars, or the spirit, or the sport ...
they just want to make money, as much as possible. And with the higgest possible profit.
Greed is not a sin (sounds like gordon geko), but porsche, from my point of view, is about to be another opel, or ford, or Kia or whatever ....
they have tons of models, special editions, limited editions, models, sub-models, change of stop lights, etc etc etc and all kind of strategies just to stimulate an already wasted market. One day will surprise us producing bikes, school transport, police cruisers and lawn equipment.
of course, this my humble point of view.
Nowadays , Ferrari is by far, a more sport minded company than porsche.
And more loyal to their customers and fans. By far. I miss the old porsche with smaller productions, very constant product and higher quality (liked or not), and very close to their fan and customers. Ownership was almost an investment !!!
excuse my poor english,

P and F are no different in that they are both selling a lifestyle. And the price of admission is high.
