Default how long will pccb's last under normal street driving use

we all know about the unsprung weight advantage and of course heat resistance but how long will they last. down tha road when one decides to keep the car, like me, these replaceable items become a concern. usually ordinary brakes get cheaper as the parts get older... pads for a 98 will be cheaper than pads for a 2011 even if they are similar in size... but how about pccb's? any forseeable problems in the future?

A Very Long time if you dont track. On my GT3, 997.1 I had 12000 miles on the car with
no noticable wear on the rotors. I had the car on the track twice and that was it. It is a wear item
and if you track they could last a long time or wear very quickly, depending on your style.

I had 43,000 miles on my 997S (all street driving). Last check (around 40K miles) the pads still had 50%+ meat left. Rotors were fine I think like new.

My guess from what I have personally seen is easily 200,000 miles. Sitting on 56,000 miles now with no wear on the rotors, and minimal wear on the pads. F & R.

If you don't track it...pretty much forever.

43,000 miles on mine with a few track days. I have changed the fluid and also changed the pads once when they hit 50%. Rotors look to be brand new.

It seems as though keeping an eye on the pads is key to protecting the rotors. There actually are those that have tracked their pccb's with good results - again, as long as the pad wear is looked after.

Anyone know if there is a 2X pad change limit like Ferrari ceramics?

Dan, what were the measurements of the rotor thickness at 56K?

Rotors last for 2 pad changes, then rotors out-of-spec and you have to change them out too.

Regardless of how long the rotors may last due to wear (and they are susceptible to damage by a clumsy wheel install), they are still very expensive to replace whenever that time comes. As of a couple of years ago, the price of a PCCB rotor was north of $5000 (EACH). While the PCCBs look nice, and generate less dust, I personally don't see enough advantages to justify the cost differential from the good steel brakes.

Don't have the numbers handy--can give those some time. I recall that they were the same as originally delivered--no wear at all.

Sounds a bit excessive. Porsche simply calls out a minimum thickness and then expects you to replace them when they are below that dimension.

That depends on how many sets of quality steel rotors you have to replace in the same ~200k miles PCCB will last? It's been my experience over the last 40+ years that I have needed new rotors on most performance cars at 40k miles or so; about five sets per 200k miles. So there is not that much of a difference in cost if you are a street only driver.

Can you even tell how a PCCB rotor is wearing? I thought all you can see visibility is that it's either damaged from abuse or the wear indicator is visible? Thickness doesn't matter since the life of a PCCB is measured by weight?

I have 67,600 miles on mine, rotors showing no wear.

Once you go PCCB, you never go back
