Default "PSM FAilure" PASM Failure" after battery install

I just put a new battery in my car after the other was drained from sitting for a week witht the key in the ignition.
I changed the battery and the car started right up, but now it says "PSM Failure" and "PASM Failure". The "Sport" button doesnt work either.
What does this mean?

My recollection is that this error will clear after some regular driving. About 20 miles or so. There are a few threads on some errors that get thrown when changing out a battery. Most folks say they clear themselves out.

It will clear in much less than 20 miles. Start the engine, perform a few steering motions to the left and right with the vehicle stationary, then drive in a straight line for a short distance until the warning lights go out. It should clear in a few hundred feet. Same thing happened to me after disconnecting the battery while hardwiring my V1.

Mine did the same thing and cleared itself quickly. Just changed the battery last weekend. I had to train the windows after the installing the new battery too.

In your case probably did not matter, as your battery seemed depleted (or maybe not) but if you had connected a battery charger (or even a 9V battery) before removing the old one, no memories would be lost.

Had same issue - Gotta love rennlist - no mention in manual for something common and so easily resolved.

Clearing the PSM errors and resetting the window limits are on page 263 and page 26 in the 997.2 owners manual...

Is this not mentioned in the 997.1 owner's manual?

Karl.

Recently acquired a copy of the 997.1 owner’s manual. The same info is respectively on pages 261 and 29 in that one.

reviving the post with new info. All with a 997.1 TT

I had the same errors after the battery died. Mostly PSM and every now and then PASM. Every time I initialized the steering angle sensor the errors disappear until I come to a stop and maneuvering for parking the errors would keep coming back.

With a Foxwell scanner the errors were “low voltage to PASM” “low voltage to PSM” “Steering angle sensor not initialized” “sports mode failure.”

The above was with the OEM PASM. When changing to the DSC Sports module only the PSM error “Steering Angle sensor not initialized” appeared.

I initialized the steering angle per the manual moving the steering to both sides and driving straight. I also calibrated the steering angle sensor with a scanner with both DSC and PASM OEM module. Also deleted the error codes with a scanner. Unfortunately the errors keep coming back when I did maneuvers during parking.

So finally I tried resetting the Computer by disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes. It worked. I had to reset the steering angle but now the errors did not come back. I hope this helps.

I experienced something similar except while the PSM and PASM warning lights went away after some driving, I still do not have working seat warmers, homelink or sports buttons. Could it be fuses?

I’ve got a 997.1 MT and am going through the same thing. The battery was completely drained when it got shipped to me and I’ve had inoperable memory seats, heated seats, and Homelink ever since. I also got the PSM warning (cleared after some driving) and continue to have a headlight auto level adjust warning. None of these issues existed before the car was shipped out. I have an appointment with the local Porsche dealer to do a handover procedure next week; hopefully that will clear everything up.

First time I ran into something like this was ~13 years ago, selling a highly modified big turbo GTI.

The guy that was buying it drove to DFW area from San Antonio, about 4.5-5 hours.

He called me when he was about an hour out and I remembered that I needed to remove the aftermarket subwoofer I forgot to uninstall.

Unplugged the battery, removed the sub, plugged back in the battery and when I started it up there was a Christmas tree of lights on the dash.

The VWvortex forums saved me that day, backed the car down my driveway and all of the lights went away.

They arrived 5 mins later and he loved the car, missed that one right after selling.

My error will clear after a few feet of driving.
