To me, one of the most significant differences between 964 and 993 is their suspensions, especially the rear suspensions.
For once, Porsche installed a multi-arm rear suspension in the 993, to replace the goodie-but-oldie 911 traditional semi-trailing arms.
Folks who have driven the 964 (or older 911's) and the 993 would notice the handling improvement especially at off-throttle moments (whether intentional or unintentional
) during cornering.
Regards,

Wow...I don't know what to tell ya. Really you can't tell the difference. Please get "the used 911 story written by Pete Z. You have a lot of reading and drooling to do like most if not all of us. My contention is that the Carrera 3.2 is the last 911 to show case the classic appeal that could be traced back to '63 and to this date remains one of the easiest 911's to own. When it went out of production...it was very much an end of an era. It was the last 911 to feature the iconic Fuch's wheels. The 964 and 993 were much more modern cars.

no offence to the OP, but anyone who can't tell the difference between a 964 and a 993 hasn't looked at enough P cars. There is not a single interchangeable body pannel except maybe the roof.
If the OP is looking to buy a 993/964 make sure you do your research and choose the car that best suits you.
FWIW 993's will maintain value much much better than a 964.

I live in a zone with high Porsche density. 997s are common with the rest of the 911 versions basically in reducing "spotting frequency" based on age.
But, I tell you. When I see a 993 I always, always observe that they are sexiest 911's ever made.
Big *** and hips, scupled lines make the 993 more voluptous than the current cars while still delivering a modern-era persona.
The 964s are a bit of robo-hybrid of the 3.2 Carreras of the 80's - although they brought some big technology changes (just take a look at the barbaric fuse box of an '88 Carerra) they give away some of the sex appeal of the 80's cars.
The early 911's are salve for the retro-crowd and Steve McQueen fans. To me they are pieces of history and should remain there.
Like the man said - I miss my 3.2 Carrera...

Yup, at least in my mind, that's the iconic image of the 911 from the '80s "greed is good" decade that I had aspired to own one day. Having said that. I love all the 911s in their various forms, even the much berated 996.

Well I must admit that I am not well read up on any 911 before the 993 so when a guy at work was asking me about my 997 and said he owned a 964 I was left wondering whether it was a Mazda or a porche since I had never heard of a 964.
To be brutally honest no porsche 911 ever interested me that much until the 997 came along so that explains my ignorance and why I posted this here.

I'm with Niche.
993 over 997, all day long.

P.S. I believe the build quality to be much better in the 964 than the 993 (which is a pity b/c the 993 looks so much better), having had experience with both. When Porsche transitioned from the 964 to the 993, it also transitioned from mostly hand labor assembly to robotic assembly to make Porsche more efficient, to reduce costs (labor) and make the brand more competitive with other marques. The 964 was finished to a much larger degree by hand and it shows. Just my .02.

964 v 993: What's the difference? This question has been answered in detail, system-by-system, right here: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsc...-analysis.html
(I hope it's not impolitic to link to Pelican from RL... just trying to help the OP find what would have been Result #1 had he bothered to do a Google search).
And FWIW: 964 looks better than 993 IMHO... 993 is too femme. :-)
