Default Tire suggestions please

Hi folks,

I'm about a month away from requiring a new set of rear tires. I went through the past threds but would like to ask a specific question:

I don't do any track driving. I live in San Diego so I have good weather most of the year with some rain.

Just looking for a good all-around road tire.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I have heard superb things about the Pilot Sport 2's from Michelin. Excellent Traction - low mileage.
I have heard great things about Continentals. Great tires - lower cost than Michi's.
I have Kumho's that came with the car - I don't particularly care for them and will not buy another set.

Have you read the TireRack reviews ?

...should have also stated that I currently have Hankook V12's on there.

I've used PS2s since the OEM Contis wore out. They have excellent wet traction which is important to me. Otherwise, between the rain and snow in the midwest, I would never be able to drive the car.

Currently the rears are down to the wear bars at 20 K miles. The fronts have another 20 K to go. I'm going with Pilot Alpins for the winter (for both cars) and will replace the rear PS2s in the springtime.

Thanks. I'll look at the TireRack reviews but frankly I think I'll get more relevant information from actual every-day 911 drivers. Thanks for the info on PS2s. Which Continental model are you speaking of?

Thanks,

I suggest Bridgestone RE050A N1. Excellent tire!

What's your feedback on the Hankook V12's? Assuming not good as your looking to switch.

ContiSportContact 2 and now the VMax. (replacement for the 2's)

I have a 996 and the VMax is for 19" only.

Well, I am not a good judge, to be honest, since that's all I know on the 911s.

Since you're not as picky as some on tires, then I suggest to pick the cheapest "N-rated" tire you can find which I believe is Bridgestong RE050 N1, which probably lasts the longest between N-rated tires. PS2 and Pirelli PZero (not PZero Rosso) are typically reviewed to be more performance oriented than RE050... but if you don't track, you probably won't benefit in any way.

Just replaced my conti's with Hankooks (2nd time for rears). Would have gone with the Conti DW but got tired of waiting for the 305X19 ( next production not scheduled until after the first of the year.)

New Hankook at 25 miles: front felt a little " squiggly " at 100 mph.
At 140 miles: everything good at straight line 120 mph.
At 210 miles: again front felt a little loose at 100-105 mph.
Yesterday, 275 miles, 75 degrees temp, 37# fronts and 40# rears, everything good on straight and curvies up to 125 mph. Reasonably quiet on asphalt, sing on concrete but no worse than my wife's suv.

Obviously too soon to give a longer term recommendation but right now very happy. ( 235x19 F & 305x19 R - after dickering $960 + tax mtd and balanced.)

Bridgestone AS960. A colleague of mine put them on his C2S and recommended them to me. They're great. Smooth-riding, relatively quiet, great wet traction (important here in FL), and extrapolating from both our experience, seems like will last 30-40K miles of normal driving. Cost roughly $1100 installed, for all 4.

Agree Bridgestone is the least expensive of the N-rated but the treadwear rating is 140 while the other two are 220 so I'm not sure if the Bridgestone's will last longer.

Just mounted up a set of Nitto Invo's on my 09 C4S...came with PS2's which were OK I guess. The Nitto's are not N rated but spec out ok for the car. Great wet/dry handling, quiet so far and comfortable at a fraction of the cost for PS2's. I followed up on them after conversing with Danny on the 997 Turbo forum. I'll see how these work out. It was a leap of faith. Not many people using them at this point. Same leap with my Cayenne Turbo...Moved from Michelin Diamaris to non-N Toyo Proxes and never looked back. For my C4S I was considering Bridgestones as well. The price for the Michelins is much too exaggerated to me. With the mileage thet I cover as my DD...I'll be able to drive out a few sets and see how they impress me along the way. Loving the Nitto's so far.

Default Which are quietest?

All other things not considered, any idea which tires are quietest? I had continentals on my 997.1t and they were really loud, then switched to Bridgestones (not the N1's) and they were better. I'd give up a little performance for a quieter ride for more pleasant long road trips. Thx
