Default Hard Top

So, I probably screwed up and got my new C2S cabrio without the hard top option. I "thought" this would be a fairly easy item to get after market if I changed my mind later (and of course a few months in I already want one! . The prices I am finding (especially with shipping) are nasy. Any suggestions where to get this after market for a 2011 C2S in white? Suncoast quoted me ~$1500 ish just to ship it, doh!

Getting it directly from Porsche here in Stuttgart is not looking any better once you consider the crappy euro exchange rate. . .

I am also on the look out for a winter wheel / tire set for the car. . . I have some prices in mind, and was just on the phone with wheelenhancement.com. It will cost me about $1700 just to put winter rubber on my Turbo II wheels here in Germany, for that price I figure I would be better off buying a second full set from the states and having them shipped. Any decent suggestions? (I know there is at least one other thread on this now that I am following)

Thanks guys!

All you need are the adapters (which I can sell you for $300 (shameless plug). I have to think there are a number of 996 hardtops in Germany that are for sale. Since all 996's came with a hardtop (they are identical to the 997 hardtop), most people dont use them (at least here). So, buy a 996 hardtop, and buy the adapters, and you're all set.

I would have to challenge that suggestion by wiggy that you would find plenty of 996 hardtops available second hand. The Europeans use their hardtops much more than those in America who routinely opted for either the delete option or never ordered one for their 997.

I know that they're not inexpensive but you pay for the convenience.

Make a search on ebay or Mobile, from time to time there some units at great price. The 996 Hardtop feets perfectly too and there´s plenty of them, you just need to choose carefuly the adapters in case you buy a 996 unit.

Love my hardtop, it gives a defferent look that I love and for long trips you clearly feel the difference on engine noise, it´s more quite.

Huh, good info, did not know the 996 hard top could fit the 997.2. . . i'll keep my eyes out for one. I don't really need the thing, but would not mind having it

Are the 996 and 997 hardtops exactly the same in physical appearance and function with thebexception of the adapters needed to get a 996 top onto a 997?

Pretty much they are the same. I have looked at some parts differences and the only thing I have noticed is the move they made from bayonet connectors to allen bolts.

The allen bolts are not just a 997 thing. Dealers often replaced the bayonet style connectors with the allen bolts to eliminate squeaking. There is a TSA on it.

I doubt there are any differences between the tops. My hardtop is a 996 hardtop and it fit perfectly.

I asked the dealer to quote me a price for a 996 hard top. I was told the 996 top would cost about $500 and $2,920 for the conversion kit. Shocked in disbelief I pointed her to this thread by wiggy https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...t-a-997-a.html which lists the parts needed for under $300.

This was her response:
Porsche does not recommend this due to hard top not sealing properly with vehicle and potential of water coming in and wind noise.

We strongly recommend to have proper conversion kit installed with all seals- body and hard top estimate $4820.00 plus tax
I then pointed her to the suncoast site which lists a brand new one for less than that. $4,300

Overall I was pissed off because I expect a porsche dealer to know more about this crap than I do. While I did ask for a used 996 top she should have recommended a new one since it would have been cheaper.

Thats funny. I had zero wind noise or water issues and I used the parts they recommended right out of the parts book. She is an idiot.

****, I'll do the job for you for half that!
