Default CD Player Mechanical Noise

Whenever I get in my '05 C2 and turn on the ignition I hear the CD player making a cycling sound like it's loading or ejecting a CD even though there is no CD in the slot. Is this normal for the 997?

That is not normal. I recall reading that there were issues similar to that in the MY05 cars--hence the reason many PCMs got replaced. (There are fundamental differences in the configuration of the PCMs between FMY05 and MY06 cars.)

The 05 CD players are notorious for going bad. Porsche replaces the whole unit if its under warranty. Hopefully they'll replace it as a good will gesture.

My PCM was bad when the car was delivered to me (used,'05, 25K miles) last January. The service writer at my dealer (who I treated very nicely, hint) went to bat for me and Porsche picked up half of the cost of the new PCM ( they pitched in about $800). I thought this was great and expressed the same to both the service writer and Porsche. It's worth keeping an eye on because when these early units go bad, they just continue to cycle even when the car is shut off and kill the battery. Ask me how I know!

Hi guys sorry to bring this back from the dead. But sitting in my new to me 05. Car won't start lots of flashing lights and dash errors. But as I sit here typing I'm noticing my PCM making a noise like its trying to eject a cd. Also the overhead cabin light flashes as the PCM makes the noise then turns off??? Any ideas? Do I have some kind of electrical problem? PCM bad? Battery dead? Thanks

My '06 does that occasionally but the CD player won't feed/eject a cd so I suspect it's the loading mechanism is broken. I use a NavTV iPod adaptor so it's a non-issue, I'll likely replace the whole unit at some point but for now I just like 'background music' and the cd mechanism doesn't act up very often.

I badly want to keep as much oem in the car. But PCM in 997.1 is just so bad and terrible and bad... Just another reason to yank this thing out for something more modern and updated

Another vote for "normal". My '06 did that fairly often on start-up, but continued to function normally for years.
