The involvement is way less, the satisfaction of a perfect upshift shift almost bordering on a flat shift or a perfect heel and toe down shift or the throttle blip in perfect sync while down shifting it something that is entirely gone. Hence 1/2 the fun is gone. Anyone can drive an auto as anyone can drive a straight line fast so what is the point in that when half the art of driving skill is not required anymore.
Every time I drove it I would lose 1/2 the fun. Actually probably more then 1/2 the fun. What really would I do if I didn't have to be engaged to drive my sports car. I guess I would want to have a coffee. Oh wait, then I would have to complain about cup holders that don't do a great job of holding cups. Then I have to complain about the suspension being to stiff, need to soften that up. Man with all the time on my hands I would want more gadgets so I could be more productive while in the car, need a Panamera console with a hundred buttons to push. You know where I am going with this.
+1.

To OP. I think it's absolutely no brainer that 08 Carrera is a step-up from 09 Cayman PDK. Engine, noise, comfort, room, feel, etc... It all depends on how bad your back is and how tolerable the manual shifting is for you.

997.1 clutch is just slightly stiffer than my Audi and definitely not as stiff as GT3. I suggest to take one for a LONG test drive to see for yourself. If troublesome, maybe stay with your Cayman, or look into 09 C2 PDK.

If shifting with a clutch was so good why do F1 cars paddle shift and the Carrera RSR with sequential only uses the clutch to get going in first. MY SC that i track has a clutch and I enjoy shifting but on the track you can go so much quicker with more attention to driving with PDK sorry for the length.
You said it much better than I did! Great point about the F1 and C RSR cars! I can tell you that the most fun in driving a car is driving it smooth and as fast as possible. I would much rather focus on that and not worrying about shifting and being in the power band! As I said in my first post, it removes what can be a frustrating part of the driving equation.

I would just keep your PDK Cayman. That thing is quite a car.

Yesterday I made the trade. I now have an '09' black/black Carrera S 6 speed. Drove home with it last night and I really enjoyed the drive.

If I had planned to spend a lot of time at the track I would have kept the Cayman. That car with PDK was amazing on the track. However, At this point I'll do maybe 2 events per year.

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions.

Congrats! If I were trying to win my DE's I would choose PDK as well but being faster with less skill and fun is not what its about for me.

How about some pics of the tires I sold you and then put on the Cayman to trade it for the 997? Don't worry the checks in the mail.
