Default Wandering At Speed???

Hey anyone have their car wander at freeway speed? I had my car checked out at Pacific Porsche before I bought it and they said everything was good. It also feels pretty unstable at higher speeds. I would expect the car to be solid as a rock! And telling the owner to hold on while you exceed the speed limit is not really acceptable when test driving.

I did just put some hankook Evo's on the rear and I have PS2's up front. I had cords showing before so I didnt really get it up to speed before the new tires.

Any ideas or similar experiences???

Thanks

It could be caused by the mismatched tires, which can result in all sorts of unpredictable and uncomfortable handling weirdness.

Or it could just be that the car has an aggressive or track-focused alignment with little or no toe up front. That can cause the "wandering" sensation you describe. If you don't like that feeling, ask them to give you a bit more toe-in up front the next time you get an alignment.

Unless it is purposely done for specific reasons, mix and match tires on these cars (and most modern cars) is not a good idea, and in cases can be jeopardize your safety.

I would sincerely suggest you to put a new set of tires on your car as soon as possible. At least put some PS2's in the rear to match the front, if your front PS2's are still in great condition. Also, an alignment after putting the new tires on is a good idea.

Drive safe, safe drive.

My hankooks only have about 200 miles on them, so replacing the fronts is the next logical option. But I have mismached tires plenty of times with no ill effect.

And the previous owner never tracked the car so I cant imagine an aggressive alingment.....however the left rear tire was the one with the cords showing on the inside edge of the tire. So the rear camber is set pretty aggressivly.

Mixed tires is a no-no.

The new tires may also still have the slippery mold release being scrubbed off. Takes about 500 miles. So, it may improve a little.

Different tires all have a different harmonic vibration, causing all kinds of problems when being mixed/matched.

Meaning "N Rated"? Probably not. But, there are some great tires in the market without the N rating.

"Hey anyone have their car wander at freeway speed?"

Absolutely not, the car is super stable at high speeds, way way more stable than any normal passenger car. Sounds like something is wrong (probably the tires, or maybe alignment)

Your rear spoiler is coming up to...right? Just another (low probability) thought.

My 07 911 feels like you can get out and walk at 100mph on the highway. The only time the car wanders for me is when it is fairly windy outside. Then as I approach 85mph the car can wander a little.
