Default Trailering a 997s pdk

Thinking about taking the car to a DE this weekend and was wondering if it was ok to trailer while in park. The owners manual has some instruction of how to get the car in neutral by removing the stash compartment cover and pushing some lever but that seems like a hassle. You cannot put the car in neutral unless the key is in the ignition and powered up. Just wondered if anyone with the pdk is just trailering in park with the brake on or releasing the tranny into neutral.

Answer found, putting in neutral was only for towing on the ground. Trailering in park is the way to go.

You don't have to power up the car to move to neutral. Just turn the key to position 1, depress the brake pedal, and move the gear selector to Neutral.

The problem is that with the gear selector in Neutral you can't extract the key from the ignition and many on-board electrical systems remain active, creating a drain on the battery. I don't think you'd want to leave it that way for a long tow. As OP discovered, no reason not to leave the selector in Park instead of worring about putting it into Neutral at all.

You're absolutely right, Mike. I was just making a point that if you ever need to move the shifter into Neutral position, that you don't have to power up the engine.

I think we each simply interpreted differently what the OP meant by "power up" ; you thought "power up the engine" and I thought "power up the ignition". No sweat!
