Default Strange ignition key behavior

Had this happen to me a couple times...insert key, depress clutch, turn key to ignition, nothing happens. No dash warning light test, no ignition, nothing. Repeat the process, and most times, the ignition will fire, but not always.

What I am doing wrong or what is amiss?

its not the key - its the clutch interlock switch. mine was replaced at about 1000 miles. its a common problem.

I had an intermittent clutch pedal switch that I took to the dealer and they did not fix. Finally just reached under the steering wheel, disconnected the wires (brown and yellow) and shunted together. Downside is it will start without the clutch being pushed in, which is danger if you do not push the clutch in and/or have it in neutral. P.S. All European cars are this way, I believe.
