Default these new 997.2 variants will drive price of the base and s down down down

all these new variants of the 997.2 will drive the prices of our beautiful carrera S's and base models down!!! and then the 991 will come out to give the knockout blow!!! huhuhu makes me sad, maybe its time to go for that turbo upgrade before the 991 comes out? what you guys think? i suppose with all these variants teh turbo will be the least affected. libr will be esctatic.

It is a car, of course it will depreciate. I keep my car for a long time so depreciation is not a concern.

No they won't. With only ~100 in the country, and at $200k+, the Speedster will have zero effect on the rest of the model line. There will be relatively few GTS models as well, and with transaction prices for all likely to be over $100k, they will not hurt resale of other models, either.

The next generation will determine an increase or decrease in demand for used 997s. Could be like the transition from 993>996, which most considered a downgrade, or like the 996>997, which was almost universally considered a major improvement. Time will tell.

Yeah I have to disagree with OP. The GTS and Speedster are just too rare to affect 997 resale.

The 991 is what will do it. Depends on whether the 991 is seen as a big improvement over the 997 or not. If it is too much of a departure from the "classic 911" then the 997 value might hold very well. But if the 991 is just awesome the 997 value will plummet.

Pretty standard for any car.

BTW I don't agree that Turbos will hold their value any better. The Turbo now is on the 9A1 block. I think the cars that are most likely to become collector's items that will hold their value very well are the ones on GT1 block, since that engine is beloved and has been cancelled going forward.

i really hope that these iterations wont hurt the value of the more basic 997.2's. i do keep my cars for a long time too but would still hurt if i know that what i have is so much less in value than what i paid for.. and just after a couple of years.

Cars depreciate - it is what it is. Turbo's depreciate as much if not more. $150K cars worth - $90-100K in 2 years. I know my $90K 2009 is not $50K down quite yet. Either way - I dont care too much. I really like my car and its resale value affects that very little.

Don't talk to me about how much my 08 Targa depreciated in 2 years. Fortunately, my father decided it was so cheap, he would just buy it rather than let the dealer take it for that.

Two things killed my depreciation, 1) the introduction of the 997.2, and 2) the trunk money that PCNA was giving on 997.2s. I think depreciation on the 997.2 will be driven more by how popular the 991s are going to be. Could go two ways, the 991s could be very popular and it could push down values of 997.2s, or it could be a monstrosity among the purists and keep the value of the 997.2s high.

If 997.2 values suffer because of the new 991, then 997.1 values will suffer even more. So after buying a 2006 C4 cab and starting to make payments on it, I hope the new 991 is about as desirable as a Pontiac Aztek

+1, but if we were worried about resale value, I don't think we would own a Porsche!

I bought a 4 yr old C2S Cab that originally stickered for $105K for $63K with CPO. Only 6K miles, and literally showroom new. Best way to beat the depreciation curve. To each their own, but if you insist on buying new then you can't complain

If you're not driving your Porsche then you are wasting your money by buying one and worrying about depreciation. These cars are meant to be driven.

Great looking car, and great buy! I bought my '09 off the showroom, 1 year old new, when they were discounting $18K, but took a beating trading my '04 C4S on trade with 27K miles....but so it goes with the 996, although it was a nice car also. Just too many people can afford to own for a few years and then dump, which kills the resale for everyone else....but when you have the disease, I guess you justify owning; but they are sure great fun to drive!
Regards, Ray

not exactly, the variations are much more expensive than base cars... so they wont cannibalize the base cars... they are all different.. people about to spend 110-120 on a GTS arent looking at 60k used carrera's..

people stepping up to the carrera will see base cars as a deal COMPARED to the new variations. ;-)

I actually think all 997s (special versions or not) will go down in history as the last 'short wheelbase' 911 by the independent (non-VW owned) Porsche company.

The last Porsche 911, before it becomes VW 911

Quick Reply: these new 997.2 variants will drive price of the base and s down down down
