On a plus side and it could just be a coincidence, but the car has yet to use any oil between oil changes.
Thanks for the feedback. I will probably pick up a Blackstone kit as I'm interested in some factual data to go with my hypothetical/anecdotal data.

Money? Only costs about $19 when you buy in bulk (6 tests) from Blackstone, for example.

What about the cost of 5 oil changes in the first 10,000 miles which they are recommending?

It looks like the OP is doing yearly oil changes (12/4/09 and again at 9/2/10) which is what you should be doing anyways, regardless of mileage IMO.

I'm doing yearly oil changes but only because I'm obsessive. The factory recomendation is 20 K miles or two years.

Boo, most RL'ers here do the yearly oil change like you (and me). I am aware of the factory recemmended interval. Didn't Porsce update the iterval for the '05 997? Something like 12K? Or maybe I am confussed, and Porsche reduced the interval with the MY(s) after yours. Can't remember.

Actually it would only be 4 additional changes when you factor the first annual service w/oil change. And Blackstone is only suggesting continued frequent changes if the levels don't trail off before the 3rd or 4th oil change.

20K mile oil changes is straight crazy talk unless you lease your car for 36K miles.

Yes, I don't put enough miles on a car in a year, so I'm changing oil annually regardless of miles. With that said, even if I were racking up the miles, I would still be performing 2K mile oil intervals. If after 10K miles the numbers did not level out, I would just factor that into the way engine is and resume a 5-6K mile oil change regiment.

I thought oil changes were part of annual service regardless, but each car is a little different (turbo, GT3, Carrera).
