Gimmick? 
Of course it is! Half the car is a gimmick!
For example, the instrument cluster is a gimmick since gauges no longer have to look like old fashioned gauges which were individually attached to something.
Lap timer on the dash? C'mon. Racing the car voids the warranty.
You have to sort thru carefully to determine which "features" actually make performance sense. Regarding sport button: most of it's a joke. Possible exceptions: stiffer suspension and overboost on the Turbo is not a gimmick.
