With my car it's not the tires or the wheels or the alignment. Since first hearing the "clunk" sound I've had the alignment done twice and I've had two sets of front PS2s on it and my track wheels and tires too. Same noise. A mild clunking/rumble while traveling slowly (only time I can hear it) from the front. Going straight or turning. Sounds just like it did when the struts on my 1972 911 were shot. The dealer has looked at it and said they can't find anything. I plan to have them look again.

Johnwb, if you hear something that sounds like a click or light clunk especially when the car rocks from side to side across uneven road at high or low speed I highly recommend you look at the sway bar end links. I had a similar click/clunk that was hard to find. I thought maybe it was the springs jumping in the trays or something. It turned out that I had a bad sway bar end link. Even with the car jacked up and grabbing the end link and yanking it around I couldn't get it to click by hand. If you're going to play the replace and see game they're pretty cheap.

I'll look into the sway bar end link. Thanks for the suggestion.

Problem solve (I hope)... based largely on the feedback from this board, it was suggested that the top front strut mounts be checked. Although the mechanic was ready to replace another control arm, I convinced the assistant service manager that efforts should be focused on the top strut mounts. As it developed, they replaced the right front strut. No rumble, solid as a rock. Many thanks to all who contributed to the thread.

Great news, Bob. I'll tell my service department about your experience.
