Why not take a few minutes, put the seat in each to its rearmost position--then run a tape from where the seatback meets the seat -- to the pedals? (or another point of your choice)

I've had two Boxsters. When I got the 997 I felt like I had a lot more room in the cabin. Also the rear visibility is much better. The rear seats give you a much more open feeling in the cabin. At 5'7/160lbs I can't speak to the headroom or leg room issues, but I suspect because you can recline the seat more you have more options on the 997.
