On the bright side I got a new paint job and ditched the useless sunroof. However, I'm a little reluctant to get back on my home track.

Good. Agree about my sunroof too. Good for 35mph or less which pretty much makes it "useless." Otherwise too much noise. Get back on track when you are good and ready: it's supposed to be fun. There's lots of other fun things to do.

Oh I have gotten back on the track, most recently the Club race at VIR and I am signed up for the Club race at NJMP next month. Now getting back on SP is another story, now that I know just how often this happens there and the fact that the owners have admitted that they have done nothing other than think about solutions to the problem.

The problem with Summit Point is they get on over the wall, then get confused and can't always get back off the track. The safety crew has to chase them off. I suppose a shotgun in the pace car would do the trick.

Here is what happens when you hit a pheasant at high speeds!

I found these pics a few years ago. I dont remember the details of the story but I think he was doing tripple digits on the autobahn

That depends on what the deer is driving... F458, you are out of luck

I'd say at that speed, do nothing different and be ready for a bath afterwards is the best bet. A deer is relatively soft. Anything else is rolling a dice.

Braking hard in straight line you risk something harder hitting you from behind. Braking hard with steering less than straight will most likely spin the car with the heavy load transfer, engine braking and reduced aero. At 100+ mph, that'll likely result in fatality.

Staying on the throttle and doing a smooth lane change may save the day, but that depends entirely on which direction the deer is going and what else is around you.

WHAT DO YOU DO? (I don't know. Not a trick question )

Hit brake hard and stay in a straight line?

or

Hit brake hard and try to swerve to avoid it?

Discuss.

Thank you.
haha! Somebody seems bored and needs some board action!
At what distance is the deer spotted?
If it's a far enough distance, then I would stay straigt for as long as possible, then swerve if need be.

A deer is relatively soft!? Oh my!! I think hitting a cotton ball at 160 MPH would hurt...much less 80+ lbs of musscle and bone. I'm thinking there is no good answer (unless you know what the deer is thinking at that moment) but I do know that hitting a deer at 160 MPH is NOT going to be good for anyone involed...lol

If I recall, they tested three scenarios: braking hard, continuing at same speed, and speeding up, and none of them made any difference. The car (and presumably you) were equally screwed.
This episode just started on Discovery, incidentally.

That's been illegal for many years in Germany (keeping the left blinker on and/or flashing headlights) when traveling in the high speed lane.
