Question--
I did an early oil change on my new 997.2 C2S at 1K miles. I now have 5K+ miles.
I'm adding about 1 quart of oil every 1200 miles or so.
Since I've added around 4 quarts since my last oil change, aren't I partly changing the oil anyway? I was just thinking my next oil change will be the dealer 10K service.

Here in Canada, I believe Porsche has REDUCED the oil change intervals on the 2010 cars. It used to be 15,000 KMs or about 9,300 miles and it is now 10,000 KMs or about 6,200 miles. I change mine way more often than that anyway.

Good discussion...been running Motul 5-40W since my last oil change about 2K miles ago. Only noticeable difference has been slower engine crank on start up. Zero oil consumption.
Paid $12 quart for the Motul. I'll be switching back to Mobil 1 0-40 next time as the claimed Motul performance gains were negligible.

You are replenishing the DI package which is a good thing but you are also retaining much of the dirt, soot, etc. Lubriants also have a range of different molecules ( fractions of the base stock) and as we use our cars the lighter ( or thinner) fractions are lost at a greater rate. So, I would imagine that adding oil replenishes the DI and lighter fractions but I believe the oil will get a bit thicker, overall, as you approach the 10,000 miles.
