Default 997 Keys

Is anyone else's 997 Key falling apart?

The plastic cases on both of the keys for my '05 are cracked and won't stay together.

Mine is "loose", but still holding together.
I heard the 997.2 keys are more robust, but you can also upgrade your 997.1 one that looks like the Carrera GT head like this:

can someone please take a side by side photo? I'd love to see if the 997.2 or gt key fob is any smaller or slimmer.

thanks

Wow! When I got my 2006 a few months ago, I wondered why one key was black and the other was two-tone. Who knew I had a .2 key! I hadn't really looked at the black .2 key until just now, but it is indeed a little more solid feeling. Cool stuff.

My 997.1 keys are in perfect condition. But dang it, you guys now have me thinking about upgrading.

Where can one get the Carrera GT head upgrade?

The 997.2 key head maybe more sturdy, but I actually like the two tone look of the .1 key better.

Unless you drop them all the time I just don't see this as an issue. Is that what the issue is? Do you drop them a lot?

My 997.1 key fell apart this week and I lost the top half of the case with the buttons. I called the dealer. $380 for a new one and they won't sell the case alone. Any other options? (duct tape and don't use the buttons?)
