Default Ready to pull trigger, but can't find a car!

Hi all:

Fantastic board. I'm been looking around for a 997 for 6 mos and am finally ready to pull the trigger. Trouble is, I can't find many nice examples in the Bay Area.

If anyone comes across anything, I would greatly appreciate seeing it! I check Craigslist, Autotrader, dealer sites, and eBay regularly.

Here is what I'm looking for:

997 S cabrio (95% sold on convertible, but may test drive a coupe a few more times to see if I want to go that route)
2006 - 2008
6 speed
no red cars

Thanks in advance for your help!

Try to go to the Porsche website and use its pre-owned vehicle search function. I did a quick lookup in there, in the Bay Area there are a few cars at the dealers that might fit your criteria.

I am too. And I'm looking everywhere, PCA, internet, dealers, Porsche CPO website, etc.. The issue with used is finding the right car with the right color combo and the right options. So subjective. That's always the case, Porsche or any brand.

Worse than that, I can't find the right new one on any dealer's floor. They all play it safe and buy only black and silver, with minimal options it seems. And that's an issue with modern Porsches, too many high cost options

I guess just sit tight and be patient, or go ahead and order one.

Look outside your area....I found mine about 100 miles away. Took the train to the nearest stop, dealer picked me up and I drove the car home...

Good luck, be patient, you'll find your car.

BTW, big price difference in a 06-08 from ordering new. BIG!

Steve

PS: Let someone else take the first BIG hit on depreciation. Buy used. I did, about $.55 on the dollar. That's a pretty BIG savings (on a $100,00.00 car), yes?

Looks like used car prices should be higher.

Porsches aren't commodities like Toyotas or Fords; they're sold in much smaller quantities and thus have much smaller representation on the used market. You're looking in the right places, but you have to be patient, and you have to be willing to drive. Buying used, you're not ever likely to find EXACTLY what you want, and will have to decide for yourself whether whatever compromises are there is worth it to you. It's not uncommon to drive a couple hundred miles, or even a couple states away. But it's worth it!

Also, I agree with Steve on buying used!

I'm a fan of used also. It took me about 4 months to find mine. As others have said, you'll probably need to look outside your area. I was prepared to fly anywhere in the western half of the country during my search. As it happened I found one in your neck of the woods in the Bay area.

Good luck, you'll find the right one and it'll be more than worth the wait.

Dave.

Thanks all for the feedback.

I'm definitely looking beyond the Bay Area, including all of CA and I've checked local inventory in other markets like Seattle, Portland, Las Vegas, Denver, etc.

I guess it's just a matter of patience :-)

And I totally agree that buying used means big savings but figuring out what you're willing to compromise. I want either Seal or Meteor gray but love how Silver, Black, White 997s look too. Just trying to make sure I don't have envy for other colors/options after I buy my car :-)

The search continues..

I'm in the bay area as well. I found mine 100 miles away. Met half way at a porsche dealer to check it out and have a ppi done. When I was pleased with the results I drove out the next day and bought it. I looked for awhile and made an offer on another car previously. Just be diligent and when one pops up that has everything you want jump on it. I didn't try and negotiate price either. His price was fair based on the research I had done so I just went for it.

You ca also try Dave Sutch at my car guy. He's great and found me several similar cars.

Looks like quite a few cabs on SF Bay Area Craigslist right now, which is where I found my C2S. Prices might be a tad bit higher than everywhere else but many of these have low miles and are total garage queens.

I'm also in the Bay Area and flew 450 mi to San Diego to pick-up my new Cayenne. Sure the local dealer would have had it delivered but i thought a little break-in trip would be time well spent. What's a few miles for the right 911? dave
