Default 911 cab maintenance- process?

Hi All,

Searched the site and the interwebs.

Is there any special lubes or greases to use for a top lube?

Is there a instructions for a top maintain process?

Getting the "not in top post error" when putting top down.

Opening seems to be the problem.

Ideas?

There is no periodic lubrication for the top mechanism. In fact, you need to be sure NOT to try that or you can make quite a mess.

All you should do is clean it in a non-abrasive fashion with cool water. Periodically clean it with RaggTop cleaner. Follow it up with Raggtop sealant. Most important in very sunny areas.

If you continue to get such displays I would go to the dealership and consult with a service rep. The one thing you do NOT want to do is to try troubleshooting a top like that yourself--it's VERY easy to get them out of wack, and then things will get expensive quickly.

I had the same error on my 06 cab and it turned out to be a faulty potentiometer which is responsible for signaling that the top is in the open position. It was repaired under warranty with no further issues. I would not attempt any other maintenance than periodically washing and protecting the top.

My two cents: Don't brush the heck out of it when washing. Get a very soft bristle brush and realize the top fibers are suffering most of the mechanical action: be gentle.

Took the car in today to Scottsdale Porsche....before I left I opened and closed the top. Did it 3x....all three times the "not in top post" error. I think I have seen the error 50 times now. Happens about 90% of the time I open the top now.

They said they found nothing after opening and closing the top 50 times and said they put the top calibrator on the car and calibrated it.

Tried 2x more time and no error....

It is fixed, but I hate being lied to.

Scottsdale Porsche "fixed" my door rattle, and they had the SA show me that 2 separate employees went around the block to confirm that the rattle was fixed. Before I was home in Glendale the rattle was back.

Same thing for the mildew smell in my A/C. They charged me for fancy spray and filter, but the problem was only masked until the spray scent wore off.

Funny, that same dealer that quoted me $600 for my first oil change also mentioned there was convertible top maintenance done as part of the service for my one year old 997. When I asked what this maintenance entailed, the service manager told me it was to lube the convertible mechanism. I ended up changing my own oil(easy), and will believe you Dan over the dealer on the convertible maintenance.

The dealer here in Toronto, Canada also told me that I need to perform the annual convertible top maintenance - lubrication. Is it required?

I have thoroughly reviewed the maintenance manual and there is no discussion about preventative maintenance for the cabriolet top.

In addition to using Raggtopp, intend to keep the rubber seals clean and conditioned, like my skin!
