Default 997.1 won't start, lights flash

When I turn the key I don't think it turns over, but I just hear a loud repeating "clack" noise. Normally I'd just assume the battery is dead except that all the other electrics have power and as I hear the strange noise, my headlights also flash, and the drivers side window starts to go down. If I've got some other electrical issue I hesitate to jump it, but really don't want to tow it from the garage it's in.

I drove the car a week ago and it was fine. I've been driving it about one or two days a week. The battery is original from 2006, and the car is under original warranty.

Should I just try jumping it?

Thanks,

Alex

Drive more! Why buy a car that you don't enjoy!

No harm in jumping it first, when my battery died I had some power on other items and I heard the same CLACK.

Definitely a battery. Unfortunately it's not going to be covered under warranty unless you've driven 12k per year. I've seen a couple of starter/alternator harnesses losing voltage when the car is warm and not charging the battery. Take it to your dealer to have them check it out.

Yeah I was able to jump it. Just threw me off that the lights were flashing and the window going down.. seemed possessed.

I drive every chance I get.. fortunately I don't have to commute during the week. At least mine gets it's legs stretched on the track once in a while

Thanks for the response..

Alex

I thought the requirement (at least when the 997 was introduced) was 6,000 miles per year. Has this changed?

The starter motor is very current hungry, in comparison with side window motors, just looking at their tasks.
If the battery has built up internal resistance it can't deliver the high currents.

Yeah, I'm sorry, it is 6k per year. If you can prove the use of a battery maintainer though, you may get some help.
