2006 C4S 3.8 engine noise
I just noticed a ticking noise from what seems the RH of the engine at idle. Any ideas where to look. Only does it when warm. almost like a valve or plug...

if it sounds like little elf who hammers at steel rail and it happens at exact rate of RPMs you have - those are hydraulic valve lifters knocking cause there is no oil in them.

I have PSE. its odd the sound is inttermitent. The elfs are a good descp. could it be old oil. brokendown?

Sometimes the PSEs crack at some of the welds but these issues are manifested when the engine is cold--goes away as things warm up and expand.
