Default Anyone planning a turbo install?

I just noticed that the TPC turbo kit is now available. Any of you guys familiar with TPC. They had the turbo kit out for the Cayman a while back and a S/C kit for the Carrera. I'm not really a fan of the Supercharger but the Turbo kit is tempting. They claim 520hp, 450lb/ft torque a C2S test car. For $10K + install those numbers are impressive.

I might just go for it......

$10K would pay for a lot of track time.

I would really like to see if some one can do a turbo update to the 9A1 motor.
I dont have all the specs but I hear that the new 911TT is the same 9A1 motor
with two turbos. No internal changes. I dont know this to be fact but thats what I have
heard. That would be a easier engineering task for people like TPC.

i'm just not a fan of adding that to a motor. i don't have any objection nor do i look down on it but i'd be more likely to buy a turbo before i put my own on.

to each his own, for sure.

Well, my 997.2 is putting out about 400 hp and that's plenty on street or track. On the street I only use maybe 50% throttle - no need for 0-60 in 3.9. So I don't understand what would be to gain by hacking the stock engine that's still under full warranty. Want a turbo, trade in for one made at the factory.

Another thing to look at is the performance difference between a 997.2 C2S and a 997 TT - yes, the TT is quicker, but not by that much (0-60, Ring Lap Time, etc.). The question remains - "Why".

So tempting I know. So tempting I went from an '06 C2S Cab to an '09 Turbo (with the 2009 incentives is was quite attractive). Certainly more than $10K + install, but I got the real deal. Turns out, more power is fun, but I at least got accustomed to it quickly. My present 400hp 997.2 C2S is plenty fast and is more fun than my prior turbo.

Just my .02 If you're really interested in doing FI in your car -- go for it! It would be a hell of a lot of fun -- question is -- for how long?

Honestly, a dumb idea and money down the drain. Just sell and get a 997.1 TT if u need the extra Torque and HP.

997.2 C2S is 385hp and they are saying 520hp (crank) so +135hp... if u say the C2S is close to the TT.. wouldnt a boosted C2S be even faster?

i get the argument tho, for the $ could have a 997.1 Turbo,

as far as street driving, i guess it depends where you drive... here in tampa area with all the highways and such i go WOT at least a dozen times a day to get up to traffic speed, when this/that... not to be "racing" on the road, but just enjoying the car for what it is... I've been told by friends i drive my 997.2 C2 faster than the people we know that have turbo's that just lug around all day.. i enjoy my car.. and feel i would enjoy the added horsepower more...

my true desire is 10' turbo pdk, but need some incentives to kick in because i dont finance cars and want to be comfortable paying the difference/try to get the diff as small as possible.

My '09 C2S should be beyond the warranty mileage limit within the year and I am considering the boost.

Then get a 997.1 Turbo!

These kits are NEVER that simple. I've done this in the past on other cars, it's not just Turbo, you need to strengthen many thing to make it all work fine, cooling, heads, intercoolers possibly, etc... it is NEVER engineered as well as the tuners claim!

Our cars are engineered to work efficiently and safely within the limits of its engine, suspension, etc... Even a modest increase of X51 in 997.1 required a 3rd radiator for instance.

Doing these kits on truly engineered sports cars are just asking for trouble, money down the drain (no on will pay premium for it at resale), and in a lot of cases won't make your car faster, as it changes the balance of the car.

Now, adding a turbo kit to a VW 2.0T is different

I know a guy that supercharged a 964 US Cup. Enjoyed it that way for a few years, always had it checked over by a master mechanic. One day at Lime Rock he crashed and totaled the car. The problem was one of the drive shafts failed, making one wheel literally fall off. When that happened I thought to myself "I wonder if the rest of the car was engineered and built to handle the added power and torque of the SC". So I agree that I would be concerned about adding 135 HP to a car that wasn't engineered to have that much power. Now if it was discovered that the same gear box and other critical parts from say the TT were already in the C2, then I'd be more comfortable about attempting it.

As to WOT 12 times a day - yes, I use WOT from time to time to have some fun coming up to speed, but if 0-60 went from 3.9 to 3.5 what's the difference? Both are blistering. To spend tens of thousands, void warranty, and risk other parts not intended to handle that power...
