Independent I used when I lived in area.

I have no affiliation. My personal experience with CPO has been such that were I to buy another pre-owned 911, I would do an independent PPI.

I agree - I'd have them provide CPO inspection with DME readout as a base minimum. If I was local and could inspect it myself, I'd be satisfied with that. If on the west coast and having the car shipped without seeing it myself, bring in an independent to confirm the CPO. Little things like stone chips would probably be under the CPO radar, but an independent should let you know if the car looks sand-blasted.
Me, I'd have the dealer CPO it to get the 2 extra years of warranty. $2k is cheap for 2 extra years.

I purchases a non-CPO 911 from PoML back in Oct 2006 (car was 6 months old w/ 2.8k miles). The process was very painless. I gave them the net number I'd pay given the trade I had and left. I told them to call me if they could do it, no haggling just give me yes or no. 3 days latter I got a call saying we can do the deal. Picked the car up the next day. They didn't even try to sell me any of the extras. Only took about 20 minutes once I arrived at the dealer to the time I left. Although if you finance it will likely be longer. My experience w/ PoML for service has been neutral to favorable. Although, I only really go there for brake flush and annual inspection. I do my own oil.
