As long as the turn signal being on the left side of the steering wheel I am ok.

My understanding of the origins of this, is that it began in England several centuries ago when approaching strangers would cross on their right sides so as to be able to fight with their sword in their right hand, and therefore on their strong side should the stranger prove to be a thief, attacker, etc.

Mmmmmmm.... the good ol' days!

(My dad, uncle, wife and son are all lefties- in fact my dad is a Ph.D. in neuropsychology who studied sinistrality in his career, so to the 30% of you who are lefties out there reading this, don't take it too seriously )

I think it was in the 70s that Sweden changed from their wrongful ways and converted to left-hand drive.

You're close, it was in 1967 we made the switch.

Almost all cars were LHD for some reason so it made things a bit simpler - still a major project...

Really? the MB in Hong Kong (Right Hand Drive) have the same set up as the US MB
That's what I though, Can anyone driving a right-hand 997 confirm the turn signal stalk configuration/location?

Thanks for the correction. Indeed, it must have been a very big deal!

Ok..but on an RHD car...one made for the Pommes, Aussies, Kiwis, etc....

Which side is the ignition key on? On the right? ala homage to the 917?

yes! ignition key goes on the right. Turn signal and wiper stalks are not reversed, same configuration as rest of the world...

It's Normal! That's where it's meant to be!

But seriously driving on the right is really dangerous I tried it last night on my way home and nearly killed myself...

Interestingly about 1/3rd of the worlds population drives on the left so not as rare as you might think...

I was five when it happened so I do not remember a whole lot. What I do remember is that my Dad was really upset about the speed limits put into place after the switch (no speed limits outside of towns before we switched)...

More accurately, 1/3 of the world's population lives in countries where the law requires that you drive on the left. Until Tata gets into volume production, that doesn't mean the same thing.

In any case, I'm sure our new Chinese overlords will enforce driving on the "right" side of the street.
