Look familiar? I think the tie has to go to the original...

Nice job Joel. I couldn't find a switch like yours, but mine is a close second I think. For some reason I can't find a photo that I had. BTW, where did you pick up your switched power?

I couldn't determine a switched power source by the ashtray, so I bought a fused power-tap a la the photo you sent me, and tapped into C1 in the fuse panel.

New 997 06S owner here, My PSE is not working so if I'm reading this right vacuum=quiet mode? I have 12 volts switching at the solenoid but always have the solenoid passing the vacuum to the flaps. If I take off the line running to the flaps a tone shift occurs which I assume is "sport" mode?

Thanks
Brian

You're right. Presence of 12v is quiet mode, absence of 12v is loud mode. So people who want loud mode all the time just disconnect the plug on the solenoid and leave the vacuum tubes connected.

This is a good thread to toss this in. I read recently that one of the big reasons that Porsche forces you to select ON for the PSE to be working is that the periodic exercising of that valve is good for it. If you leave it on all the time (and have the OFF option) it could seize in the ON position and then never switch to off like it should. (Of course, it should be cycling all the time anyway I would think because of the noise abatement speeds--imposed by Swiss rules).

I used a 9 volt battery on the solenoid as suggested and can't hear it clicking. The vacuum is passing through the valve all the time so its bad. I'll be replacing it.

Can anyone tell me or show me where the flappers are? I might be wrong but I only hear one side moving when I disconnect the vacuum line?

Thanks

Here is a photo of a PSE muffler, showing the vacuum diaphragms that operate the internal flaps. Suggest you check the vacuum line connection to the muffler on the side you're not hearing anything from.

Installed the solenoid and now the driver side exhaust shifts tone with the button but the passenger side does not. Vacuum lines are good so I'm assuming the bellow is out of the actuator since it moves freely by hand? Is this a common failure in these systems? Also assume based on the location I will have to pull the muffler off to replace it.

Yes, I would pull that muffler to have the bellows checked, although perhaps your shop can test somehow without pulling the muffler.
Good luck.

I dont have 12v at solonoid but all fuses seem ok. Can anyone point me in the right direction please. Really struggling to find where the 12v should come from.. the button lights up and functions.
