You need to drive harder and blow that soot out!

I'm curious to see how these cars 'progress' over the years and mileage.

Will the engine break in and use less oil? Is there a co-relation between location/fuel/oil used? Particular build dates?

I'm sure Porsche is compiling this information. Can't expect them just to up and start replacing engines without learning why the problem is occurring.

Default Oil and Soot

I have had my 09 Carrera S since Nov 2009. At 2500 miles I have had no oil burning issues or soot on the rear of the car. I have seen others post about oil consumption and others like me who have no issues. That is strange I admit. I do love my 997.2! The one upgrade I did was the removal of that center muffler and replace with the AWE 997.2 Cross Over Pipes. Love the look and sound, but I would not think this has anyhting to do with the soot issue.

Default Geez, you really know how to rub it in!

Still thrilled with the car, but not the soot!

My 4S PDK has been on the road since April 2009. No oil consumption between changes at 10,000 Kilometers (6,200 miles) and no soot on my white bumper. Lucky I guess.

I bought a new 09 C2S cab at the end of 2009 and added a quart of oil every 500 miles and had soot galore. I spoke to 3 Calif. lemon law lawyers whom all said that I could not lemon law the car. I took my car in for service many times, opened a case with Porsche North America, went to mediation and finally arbritration.

From the dealer on up the attitude was that my problems were normal and acceptible, so just live with it. My attitude was you can take your "just live with it" car and shove it, so, after 5900 miles I dumped it for a new Corvette Grand Sport, which is my 10th Vette. I have never had a problem with a Vette and do not expect any with my new one. Good bye and good riddins to German engineering.

Mine though a 996 does the same thing. Some don't burn oil and others do. I have done 107000 km on it in 8 years and the car still runs great.

Think of it this way. Your engine oil is cleaner then cars that don't burn as much oil.

I don't think emissions tests measure particulate matter.

It'd be interesting to get an anlysis of the soot....
