If it gives you pleasure then it's worth $150, no less than a nice dinner, an expensive bottle of wine, an hour at a Blackjack table, etc.
I retrofitted the leather covered console (purchased from Suncoast for $2K) because I absolutely hated the large piece of plastic that IMHO cheapens the look of the car's interior. There is no way I can justify that on any ledger; it makes no sense and is a total "waste" of money, but it makes me feel good every time I look at it compared to what was there. That, in and of itself, has value. I think your "pleasure disproportionate..." comment is right on but I too contend that sometimes it's nice to disobey your logical side.

Boy, that's a toughy.....
It's not something I'd buy but to each his own... it certainly would put a smile on my face if I lifted the cover and saw the cap....but I'm not sure what I'd be smiling about????
