Default I'm an idiot! Please help me identify this...

...screw.

I removed my glovebox to replace the broken CD holder piece, and now that I am putting it all back together I am looking at an extra screw that I can't figure out where it came from. I also removed some of the interior trim pieces from the trunk to access the cd changer, nav unit area for my Dension install, so it's possible it could have come from there, but I don't think so.

Anyone recognize this and where it might go? Yes, I'm an idiot. I wouldn't be so concerned, except that it seems like a relatively sizeable fastener...

It looks to be 5mm x 25mm with a #30 Torx head.

Stick it in your glovebox. Eventually you will figure it out. If it's critical you'll find out quicker. If not, no big deal!

Wait for a rattle or squeak. Remove glovebox and reinstall screw near where rattle or squeak originates. There should be a screw hole nearby. Reinstall glovebox. Problem solved.

I have a bunch of screws left over from my projects if you need extras. I also have some unresolved rattles and squeaks to pair with the hardware.

Found a key on my key chain and for the life of me I couldn't figure out what it was for... I decided to keep it for about six months and if I hadn't used it for anything in that amount of time I was sure it wasn't needed.
I racked (sp) my brain and could not come up with a use for the key so I threw it in a coffee can in the garage.

A week later I was standing at the helm of my boat unable to start the damn thing..... This getting old is a pain in the ars..

Keep the screw!!!!!!!

Gotta be here somewhere. To make it more interesting there may be several identical units but it may only be represented once in the diagram. If this doesn't work, I think you earned the right to toss the screw into the glove compartment and forgetabout it.

Nothing to worry about.

If you had a Corvette, you'd have a full trunk full of spare screws,
bolts, and plastic pieces that just fell ofo on their own.

Thanks for the suggestions. I just couldn't sleep (I guess not only am I getting old, but I'm also a little OCD) so I searched the PET. I had analyzed the diagram LlBr had posted and just couldn't identify the fastener. So I used the Acrobat search function, and hit on something when I searched M 6 x 25 (as M 5 x 25 didn't give me any clues)...

It secures the lower part of the central dash assembly to the upper part of the central dash assembly behind the plastic vent cover (the one with the 12v socket)! The challenge is that it does not need to be removed for what I was doing so why I removed it is anyone's guess!

Thanks for the replies. It's comforting to know that there are many Porsche owners driving around with "extra" screws in their gloveboxes!

I would think a Range Rover owner would know about stuff falling apart.

That's why the cargo area is so large on a RR--to house those excess loose parts.

If it were me, I'd do the entire project again from scratch.

You'll find a hole without a fastener eventually and you'll sleep better.

Keep in mind there's gotta be a few screws out there somewhere which were dropped and not recovered by factory workers during the car's assembly. THAT could drive an OCD guy nuts.

That also could be the screw that bolts the subwoofer in on the passenger floor.

You're right, it does look like the bolt for subwoofer on cabs. I usually get it put in, and then find that the wire connector for the power outlet on the top panel has been caught below the framework, and I have to remove the bolt again, slide the subwoofer forward, then free the connector.
