305 vs. 295 on rears...
Tire rack lists two "original equipment" sizes for the rear tires on my 06 997S. I assume I should stay with what came on it (295?) Any thoughts? Reasons to go 305? They'd be slightly wider right? Thanks.

305 is slightly wider and, in theory, will result in a little more understeer. In practice it's not likely you'd notice any difference. I went from 295s to 305s on my C2S (PZero Rosso for both) and the difference was imperceptible on the street.

What about visual appearance? Love a nice, fat tire.

atr911, 10mm, that puts it in perspective I guess, thanks.
I have tracked it once, and plan to again once I get tires and insurance sorted out.
I assume there's no clearance issues under hard cornering. Still shudder thinking of the guy I saw at a DE who's fenders were all jacked up from having tires that were too wide. They were rolling his fenders trackside, not pretty.

305's are also a little tall...more diameter. I doubt you'd notice on the street but the taller the tire the higher the gearing thus not as fast accelleration.
Other than that they do look a tiny bit fatter and for street driving youiw ll not notice any handeling differences.

He said he has a 997S which had 19" wheels standard, and the pic in his avatar shows the 19" Carrera Classic 19" wheels. Not sure why you think he has 18" wheels. Plus he said the car came with 295 width tires, which wouldn't be 18" wheels. 997 18" wheels come with 265 width tires from the factory.

You can pay a little more for the 305s if you think it will get you something. Routinely, the widebody 997 cars came with 305s in the rear, and on the Carrera Sport equipped narrowbody 997S cars.

You know what's funny is that the 305 and 295 PZero N1's have the same diameter (26.1") according to TireRack as well as Pirelli. One thing to keep in mind is that its 10mm on each side or 20mm combined, almost one inch. I thought I did notice the tire protected the side wall a little better..looked a little "fatter". The 295's were stretched to within an inch of their lives on an 11" wide wheel. A pic of 305's..

I'm not following your math there Dave. 305 is 10mm wider than 295, and half of that 10mm is added to the inside of the wheel and half is added to the outside. So a 305 tire will stick out 5mm, or 1/5 of an inch, from a 295 tire on the same rim. I too like the raised ridge on some tires (it varies by brand). It provides some protection for the rims as well as makes the tire look wider than one without the ridge.

I did the same thing for my S. Switched from 295 to 305 Bridgestone RE050A. They were installed on stock S rims
Looks good from where I live... No big difference in handling or visual look.

After researching here that's what Im planning on the RE 050As. Edgy, when you say 305s came with "Carrera Sport equiped" cars, do you mean the sport suspension or Carrera Sport wheels? Thanks
