Default 997.2 touchscreen cleaning and Porsche microfiber cloth?

What's the final verdict on the proper way to clean the 997.2 PCM touch screen...that said...is anyone using a protective shield? Also...should I have received a Porsche microfiber cloth with the car or not? I purchased it in november 09. it's a C4S launch car. Thanks all! PS....what a stunning vehicle it is!

I didn't get a microfiber cloth with my car. I've always used a clean slightly damp cloth to clean the PCM screen in the Porsche and touchscreens in my other vehicles. I think, in fact, that's what's recommended in the PCM manual. Personally, I rarely use the touchscreen feature; I use the other controls instead when possible.

I bought the micro fibre for my 997.1, it's like $9 or so, and it's nice. There's also some other cleaning pads that work well. Just make sure not to use something abrasive to scratch the screen.

Any cloth for cleaning a computer screen, flat screen TV or quality sunglasses is just fine.

I got a shield from somewhere, but I don't care for it too much. It was supposed to add protection and reduce glare - there was little glare to begin with and this particular screen (NuShield) adds a glass look surface versus the matt surface and actually increases glare. Also increases polarization effect when wearing sunglasses. And smudges 10x than the plain screen. Upside is that it came with a nice cloth to clean it with. I'll probably remove it at some point though - maybe look for something else. I have had better results on my camera with other screen brands. Some sort of protection seems like a good idea - would be a costly bummer to scratch or damage that thing and it is sitting out in the open - an easy target.

I like to use the Micro Fiber cloth for light cleaning but when someone has oily hands I have found that the Lens Cleaning Wipes made by Zeiss or Bausch Lomb really works well. I use them for my glasses and Iphone screen. You can pick them up at Walgreen , Walmart etc. They have them where they sell contact solution.

Now? I let time clean mine. Clean every week after delivery then gradually reduce cleaning to once or twice a year.

If we buy those Oakley sunglasses, each of them will come with a microfibre bag (aka the 'sock'.)

It is good to clean the screen. I think places like Sunglasses Hut sells them individually, about a few dollars each.

Regards,

Ideal! Thanks everyone! I did finally find a one line reference in the PCM booklet though it seems trite...on the other hand...might be just that simple!

Just never use Windex. Water works fine.

Agreed, a water dampened soft cloth at most. You do not want to use cleaners that are unapproved on such displays because once they are spotted/stained/damaged, there is no fixing it.
