Default Fuel additive

I started adding techron every 3 months or so in my 997.2 as i do w/ my other cars. It seems to help esp w/ all the ethanol. Any comments?

BTW, I sometimes fill up at Chevron.

Excellent stuff that Techron! When used regularly, you'll never have injector issues or carbon buildup on valves/pistons. I use it in all my cars, Japanese, American and German.

All top tier gasolines do their detergent job. It's better to fill with 76 or Chevron all the time than using an additive once in a while.

Watch out for continuous high concentrations of fuel additives containing amines. Could effect the seals in hoses in the fuel systems.

They are meant for acute issues---maybe every 3-5k miles.

Charles Naverro recommends an oil change after the use of a fuel system cleaner like Chevron's Techron Fuel System Cleaner.

I use it in the Fall, just before the last oil change of the season in preperations for winter hibernation.

I used to use the old BMW fuel additive every other tankful until they discontinued it. Now I add this every 3000 miles. Gee I wonder what's in it? Probably a different formulation but my brain hurts and I can't do any more research I just buy the BMW version: if it's good enough for BMW it's good enough for Porsche. The corner auto store stuff is probably as cheap as they can make it and still call it Techron.

the Bmw cleaner IS techron as told to me by my Bmw service advisor. I started adding this about 18m ago when a friend's Audi a6 w/ dfi had to get it injectors cleaned at under 20k miles. Audi said it was ethanol related and recommend techron every 4th or 5th fill up.

That's too frequent. Techron is good stuff but the stuff you buy in the bottle is very concentrated and could over time corrode injector nozzles and such.

You're better off running a top tier gas (premium too of course) and treating the engine to a bottle of Techron maybe every other oil change, or even less frequently.

Sincerely,

Macster.

I use Techron twice a year and feel it does help clean the fuel system.
I also only use non oxy fuel in all my cars. I believe the ethanol fuel is crap and will cause fuel system problems. oxy fuel. The only reason we are forced to use it is because the farmers have a strong lobby. Ethanol has lower BTUs and will degrade in your tank after only one week. If the government did not force us to use it our fuel and food costs would be much lower. My fuel mileage is about 10% better with non

Yes, mine told me that too. However he just had to mess everything up by saying something like, "The BMW stuff is the good stuff, not like the diluted version sold as Techron in auto stores."

How are we going to get to the bottom of that? I figure just buy the BMW stuff and move on.

+1

And run a full tank of the treatment right before those oil changes.

To the best of my knowledge, you can't buy any fuel in the US that does not have some level of alcohol added. There might be some exceptions with certain race or aviation fuels.

Last year I could find a few places that had 100% gas. And the cars ran great with better mileage.

What are you buying? What is "non oxy fuel"? Are you saying that you are able to find gas without any alcohol?

What are the arguments for or against additives in a DFI engine?

Has anyone used Lubro Moly stuff? I've used them on my Audi and seemed to work great.
