Baby got 2 new pair of autoX shoes
Pretty excited that my set of wheels and tires for autoX came today. The wheels are 18" like-new factory Carrera take- offs. They were significantly less costly than a quality set of aftermarket wheels and being factory, I have confidence in their durability, fitment, etc compared to cheap AM wheels. The tires are Michelin Sport Cups, 235x40 front and 295x30 rear.
Although my stock Pirellis did pretty well in a couple of events, they don't have the grip of an R rated tire and with full tread I was getting some minor chunking. Rather than burn through a $2000 set of 19" street tires with relatively inferior grip, I went with these. By comparison the 18" Sport Cups were inexpensive. For example, my 305x30x19's are almost $600 each and 295x30x19's are about $550 in either stock or R compound. The 295x30x18 Sport Cups were a bit more than 1/2 the price of the 305's. (among others, a great reason for going with 18's instead of 19's in this application.)
Anyway, can't wait for the season to start.

Have pilot sport cup tires ofr my SC for autocross and track great tires. Mich has quit making them in 16" but I have a mounted set and a spare un-mounted set when the time comes. Nice thing is you can change tires at home and legally drive to the event.

They are genuine factory alloy take-offs, not replicas or "wheels from a manufacturer who also supplies OEM" like some of the ads I saw, and are absolutely like new. I paid $1800 from Wheel Enhancement. Ordered them Tuesday, they showed up today.

I thought about that and looked at the Hoosiers. Would have had to go with 225's or 245's in front instead of the 235's I was looking for but probably could have made that work. My main concern was that I have to drive about 25 miles each way to our club autoX site. I don't have a practical way to get tires to the track, so I change tires at home. We get fog here even in summer (as I'm sure you're familiar with in SF ) and streets can be a bit damp in the early morning. The street legal R compound tires seemed like a better choice for me.
