There is a small switch that is part of the ignition circuit; it functions so that the clutch has to be depressed in order to start the car. On both my '99 996 and '07 Boxster S I used a cable tie to permanently close the switch so I could start the car without having to climb in. In any event, the switch clicks when the clutch pedal is depressed. It's not loud, but you can hear it. Could that be what you are hearing? I'd think the dealer would have referenced it since they went to all the trouble of replacing the cruise control switch, but you never know.

I had the same issue. It is the micro swith that contols the starting of the car(see above post). Mine just worked it self out and for the past year or so it has been quiet.....GR

Switch click!

Actually it's kind of reassuring that there's an old fashioned physical _electric_ circuit involved in the operation of our cars. "Everything" else seems to be computer driven software dependent drive-by-wire.

"Next generation" cars will probably eventually have sensors in the clutch hydraulics because the micro switch is too expensive. The production of the sensor will be a lot cheaper but of course the repair/replacement of the sensor will be phenomenally expensive compared to a simple micro switch. LOL

Yeah, drive by wire.. not such a good thing... given Toyota's problem, where depressing of the gas and brake cannot stop the car, because the brake pedal is not actually mechanically connected to the break master cylinder.

The clicking is normal, there is a switch to detect the clutch being fully depressed.

We purchased our car last month from our local dealer and while doing our initial test drive there was a very audible "click" heard both pressing and releasing the clutch pedal. The noise was loud enough for the passenger to hear so I would suspect it was something different from what is being referenced above.
They were able to correct the noise in about 10 minutes but I have no idea what they actually did. The just said they made a minor "adjustment".
