Default front spoiler lip

Hello,

No matter how hard I try, I find many times my front spoiler lip scrapes the ground.

What exactly is the function of that lip? Is it simply a warning system to avoid scraping the actual spoiler or does it have some other purpose? Can it be removed?

What I worry about the most is that it will get caught and wind up tearing the spoiler itself.

Any thoughts on the subject?

Thanks,

-T

It manages the air flow.

Thankfully, it's designed to be a consumable. When it gets too chewed up, replace it.

I assume you already know to get on and off sloping driveways at an angle to minimize the scraping.

It is there to help reduce front end lift. I would not remove it. As stated above ^ it can be replaced.

Yeah, the roads "eat them up."

Ok. Thanks.

Yes, I am aware of the advantage of taking a bump/hill at an angle but frankly you can't always do that. For instance, the exit from my son's school has absolutely no room for that and it has an aweful dip. I wind up doing it at a snail's pace...

Thanks,

Each new car has a leaning curve (hopefully, steep) regarding parking lot entries/ exits and Porsche's excellent engineering requires a bit more thought at each street gutter and parking space bumper. I scraped the plastic underbody of my 997.2 raw during the first few months. Oh well, it is easier than learning to take a downhill curve fast on a rainy night...

I have a driveway that if I don't take at the right angle, I hear some scraping and naturally assumed it was the front lip. One day got out and checked and it wasn't the front lip, but one of those little "spoilers" right in front of the front tire.

I never had this issue with 997.1 and find it much worse on 997.2 I blamed sport suspension which was not on the .1

BTW, what do you do to scrape it so much? I've actually find that the car clear speed bumps and other stuff extremely well for how low it is!

The spoiler lip is easily replaced. What pains me more is the underside of the very edge of the front chin of the car. You want to keep these cars flawless, but that's just not going to happen unless you drive with kid gloves on 100% of the time or don't drive at all. That's not what we bought our 911's for!

With my Aero kit front lip:

And being that this car is a daily driver for me, I find that no matter how careful I am I end up scraping the lip at least every couple days. Yes, I could just keep repainting it, but it's really becoming a pain - I now wish the car didn't have the front Aero kit lip. The bad part is that when the paint comes off, it's white and about a 1/2" of white on the bottom part of the lip is very noticable to me.

I'm wondering if I should just have a body shop maybe cut an even 1" off the bottom of it to help alleviate this issue...

2 minutes to remove....one screw or push pin on right or left end....then slides through channel.
