Tan Interior - Paint for Plastic Surfaces
#61
I was astounded at the results. Best part is they come to you. Dude worked on the car in my driveway for like two hours on it while my daughter and I put up Christmas lights.

I'm resurrecting this thread. I've got sand beige plastic bits that have lost their color. They are not out in the open. The interiors guy that was recommended to me was hemming and hawing about not being able to match the color and he'd want to take the door panel off and blah blah blah. I figured since it was plastic, why not use a plastic modelling enamel paint? I'd have never thought of using an interior enamel paint. Project time.

I had a bad case of the sand beige plastic losing its color and going shiny black. This was under the driver arm rest lid. My indy said he had a guy that could work on it. Would ned to take the door panel off, prep, find a dye to match and hope for the best. Was looking down the barrel at more than a couple hundred bucks. After reading this thread, I headed over to the Home Depot and got a sample paint based on the mix in this thread.
Sanded and prepped area. Took all the shiny black off. Not sure if I had to do this but preparation is 90% of painting.
I used a brush rather than a sponge for no reason other than I had better control over the paint application.
Not perfect but for the $10 of materials and 30 minutes of my time, I'm satisfied.

Helpful thread. Was about to order custom mix from paint shop at $37 for 2oz, and found this discussion. Very tidy fixes by all, very well done. PO or dealer totally refreshed Sand Beige interior of my C2S, but missed a couple of nicks in spaces probably too tight to spray (without an airbrush), and/or didn't try sponge application. I think I can get these to look just as minty with the directions offered here. Before pics:
This would have required removing cluster surround to spray, but a small sponge brush should work a charm here.
The mirror controller spring clips are missing (replacement on the way) so PO/dealer could have removed this to fix surround, or perhaps it was nicked after refresh. Again small sponge should do the trick!
Also looking for paint to match face plates of PCM and HVAC controls, PO/dealer nicked top left edge of HVAC when reinstalling PCM before sale.
Dealer restored PCM because aftermarket radio was causing electrical issues, and botched the HVAC face plate along the way.
The rest of the interior on my 2006 C2S with 71K miles... Sand Beige looks nearly pristine!
[After pics to come — I need to run out to my local Home Depot this week, and of course that means I get to drive there and back... bonus!]

Tackling my sand beige interior, some parts require touch up but others require full strip and paint. Had good luck with the oven cleaner to strip the paint, left this part soaking over night and worked great. For those who used the Home Depot paint, how’s it holding up? Was thinking of using a matte clear coat to prevent future scratches on the parts requiring full paint, anyone tried that?
