Default Question RE: 12V accessory power plug in passenger wheel well

My 2009 Carerra has a port for accessory power in the passenger side wheel well. It has a cap (spring hinge) that open to allows you to plug into this extra socket (sort of like an extra cigarette lighter socket).

My question is - does this have power all of the time, or is it powered only when the car's ignition is powered by the key?

Yes, I know this is easy to check, but my car is apart right now with the battery out - so I can't right now.

Help would be appreciated - if anyone could check.

Always on in my car. Gotta unplug things before parking it.

I believe the manual suggests that plug not be used for the recharger, if that's useful.

Manual says remove battery for recharging. Footwell and storage tray socket should not be used for tire air pump. Only cigarette lighter should be used for air pump. Any socket can be used for battery maintainer.

Correction - I use the cigarette lighter for the CTEK trickle charger.

I can't find reference to this in the manual. I actually use this plug for the CTEK battery maintainer, and everything seems to be working just fine.

Cool. I never would have expected that.

I don't smoke but I would put a lighter coil in it and just light cigarettes out of the wheel well.

I'm very sorry - I should make a correction too. I found the Original Porsche Battery Maintainer instructions. The 500mA Porsche maintainers are only to be used in the cigarette socket. That's the same high amp socket that should only be used for the air pump. Sorry for saying the wrong thing. BTW Ctek units can be 3 amps or more, better check if cigarette socket is ok to use.

Do not use the auxiliary socket for an air pump. Use the cigarette lighter. Otherwise you will blow a fuse.

Yes. It appears to be on full time. I keep one of those little LED flashlights in it because the power outlet in the under-elbow storage bin goes away when you have the universal audio ports.

Did you mean foot well? Inside the car on the side of the center console?

Wheel well is outside where the wheel is. It appears from a couple responses there is some confusion.
