Default OK to leave on jackstands for extended time?

I was wondering if there any issues if the car is left on 4 jackstands for any extended length on time - 1 to 2 months?

Any issues such as:

alignment issues?

stress on suspension components?

my guess is yes it would put stress on the suspension.

The biggest risk to a hanging suspension is rust in the strut pistons. Make sure they are coated with oil if they will be exposed for an extended period. Other than that, there is no risk to other suspension components.

Owners manual says not okay to "lift the vehicle due to the possibility of corrosion on shock absorber piston shafts."

Biggest risk is as another poster mentioned, exposing shock piston shafts to the elements. These can rust or more likely gather a good coating of dust/dirt.

When car lowered to ground and driven this dust (or rust or both) will then compromise the seals and a leak could result. Maybe not right away though, but later.

If you must leave car on stands for a prolonged period of time find a way to protect the shafts from corrosion and dust. Not sure how best to do this.

Also, be sure stands are on level ground and can not impart a twist to the body while it is supported by the stands. A car can sit on unlevel ground on its tires but when supported by the body's lifting the stands should be level.

Sincerely,

Macster.

why do you want to leave it lifted? to protect the tires from flatspots? if yes, then just put it on either tire dollys, or make some tire cradles to set it in. that should prevent flat-spots. otherwise, get some damaged rims or cheap rims. lift the car, exchange your good wheels and tires for the beater rims, then set the car down on the rims.

If you're doing this to avoid flat spots simply overfill the tires and then bleed them off prior to driving off. I wouldn't bother with an extra set of wheels to 'save' the regular ones.

if that is ok to do, I agree, that it is a much simpler and direct approach. I frankly don't know wheter overinflating the tires for any duration may damage them in some way.

A cars bushings are more comfortable when the car is on the ground and the suspention is a little compressed. But I dont think having it up for a little while would hurt.
