So you say that since late Summer you drove the Jag 7000 miles. That's impressive. Can you tell more? Was it multiple cross-country trips?

You referenced Dad's Army...I think it is more akin to to the "Old Man lecturing 'Arlold after one of his schemes, gone awry".. that should help your homesickness (Steptoe and Son).

 

The biggie was a trip from Chicago to Asheville, NC for a couple of days at the Biltmore, then up to Onancock (tricky after a few beers), VA for a Group Geezer birthday party, then up to Philly to visit the Andrew Wyeth home and exhibition, across to south of Pittsburgh to see Falling Water and another Frank Lloyd Wright house called Kentuck **** then home. We've also done a couple of trips to family in Michigan which clocks up 550 miles for each one. It very quickly adds up.

The car is a great cruiser but can also be fun when you activate the equivalent of Sport Chrono as we did on the Blue Ridge Mountain Parkway and some of the roads around it. The suspension stiffens, the diff gets looser, and the shifts are faster with perfect "blip" downshifts. What it lacks is that "nth" degree of polish when it comes to steering, gas pedal, and brake feel that every Porsche has and that you take for granted unless you drive something different on a regular basis to keep reminding you. I think after three 911's I had begun to take the good things for granted. Oh well we learn!
