Default FS: 2002 E39 540i - 6spd sport

Ladies and Gents:

I am being relocated to New York City and thus have to decide to part with my beloved 2002 E39 540i - 6spd sport. I have owned the car for four years and it has almost 66K miles. It is silver with a black leather interior and wood accents. I have meticoulously maintained it and the car in the last 12 months has gotten a full tune up, new brakes (rotors, pads and fluids), new radiator, a new clutch and a new battery. Red Line fluids in the tranny and clutch as well as Mobil 1 full synthetic motor oil - Always. The car is absolute magic with a 4.4L V8 (295hp and 325 ft/lb of torque) driving the rear wheels through a 6spd manual tranny. I am asking $18,500 OBO.

Please feel free to pm me, email me at agdamis@gmail.com or call me at 312-401-1610.

Sounds nice. Good luck with the sale. I'm still half *** looking for a E39 M.

Years ago I had a 2003 540i 6-speed, Sterling Grey/Black, with the M5-style bumpers that came standard on 540i/6 cars that last year. Of the 20 cars I've owned, it's easily in the top 5. My real estate business had taken off and I sold it in favor of a slushbox MB E-Class that was easier to deal with vs. a stick when having clients in the car. Talk about a bad move. Good luck with a quick sale to someone who really appreciates her.

E39's are perhaps the best sedans ever made, at least for their time, IMHO. 540i is a mixed bag, though. The trade-off for more power was the V8, which replaced the legendary straight-6 and also took up enough room such that the legendary BMW rack-and-pinion steering had to be replaced with a slightly less telepathically responsive re-circulating ball. Good luck.

I'm sorry to be so dense, but I have always been a Porsche guy. Is a E39 some sort of BMW?

Assuming for the moment you are being serious (or I'm being sucked in), yes the E39 is THE 5-series BMW, and the 540i/6 is the best of them (other than possibly the M5).

I don't know if the code E39 is well known in the automotive enthusiast world. I didn't know it, anyway, and I'm a recent BMW owner and automotive enthusiast for the last 25-30 years.

For the guys asking about BMW's model codes I have included a web site that should help clarify.

http://www.theknese.com/pages/bmw-e-codes.php

http://www.usautoparts.net/bmw/repai...s/vehicles.htm

I hope this helps.

Maxy - I have a driven a E39 530 as well and agree with you but in the US there only a few refined sedans that couple a six speed with a wonderfully potent V8. I have heard from owners in Germany that even at its 155mph limiter it has plenty more to go. The torque of this car is intoxicating and makes driving in the city really easy.

Hey Dan --- The "E39" is the 97-03 5-Series and includes the M5. The current (ugly IMO) 5-Series is the "E60", which is being replaced by the new "F10" model.

I had no intention of selling this car and have treated with the best of respect and care. As my relocation was rather unexpected I hope this car can find its way to a good home and a true car guy can enjoy the excellent shape its in. Taking it to a dealer to just trade in feels like taking your beloved dog to the city pound. I hope someone can take it from me and really enjoy it.

I have a 2003 540i Sport with the 6 speed and the M front fascia and wheels with only about 50,000 miles on it. It's never been winter driven and someone has sat in the back seat only a few times ever.

It's a great car.

Good luck with the sale.
