Why do most of you guys say "congratulations" when someone makes a purchase???

A congratulation should be offered whenever a person has made a conscious decision to do something they have dreamt, desired and strived to do, over something that would have been a lot easier not to bother about...
To anyone that has decided to get married
To anyone that has worked hard to get a promotion
To anyone that has chosen to create new life with their partner
or
To anyone that has made the decision to buy a beautiful $100K sportscar as a means of getting from A to B when something less would easily have sufficed
Congratulations to all those who have chosen to move out of their comfort zones

I am surprised this topic has 4 pages of posts! It's just a matter of good manners and being part of a social group.
Personally, I appreciated having multiple strangers writing to congratulate me about getting my first 911. It reminds me that there are people with conscience, politeness, and respect around.
I remember once writing to the BMW group many years ago after having an accident and trashing my 540. I was shocked to get a bunch of messages practically flaming me with such things as: "that's what you get for driving like a maniac", "stay off the cell phone you idiot", etc. None of those things were true.
I appreciate people who get joy out of others' fortunes and not out of their misfortunes!
