Question Worthwhile to CPO '07 997?

I've had my 2007 997.1 for just over a month now and love it. The factory warranty will expire in March of 2011. I understand CPO'ing a car will cost about $2000, and also extend the manufacturer's warranty at the same time?

If so, I think this might be a useful expense to consider but only if I can get the factory warranty extended - since extended warranties cost about the same, but cover less. Can anyone comment?

Aftermarket warranties are somewhat risky:

- reject claims
- could go out of business
- some have poor tract records

If your car has low miles, seems well cared for, and has not been over reved - I would probably pass.

You could alsway have it looked at by a Porsche mechanic 1st and get his advice.

Right - exactly why I was thinking if I could get the car CPO'd then I'd also get the factory warranty extended, correct?

Correct - when I was initially looking for a used car, one deaer quoted me $2,400 to make a used car "CPO".

He said the biggest issues on the low milage 05/06 cars preventing them from being "CPO" was not having enough minimal tread depth on the tires or brake pad thickness to certify them.

I just bought a CPO 997.1 C2S and I can tell you that in order to get the car CPO'ed, the dealer had the buy from the owner (as a favor to him) and then sell it back to me. Apparently Porsche doesn't allow dealers to CPO cars for individuals. The CPO warrant cost me $2K.

Okay, I thought I heard otherwise about Porsche allowing CPO for individual owners. This then throws that option out the window if true.

So with the remaining factory warranty still intact, is there anyway to extend the same factory warranty coverage? Or do you have to go through some aftermarket warranty once the factory expires?

This is what my local dealership offered to do, I passed, didn't want an overly complicated buying process and also the car was the exact one I wanted after searching for 7 months.
