Exclamation Am I missing a wheel well piece?

[MODS, I accidentally posted this in 997 when I meant to post it in 996. Kindly delete if needed, Sorry and Thanks!]

I was cleaning the car today and noticed that I can see the exhaust from the rear wheel well on both passenger and driver side. Am I missing a wheel well trim piece? If so, I'm wondering how could this be missing on both sides? Also, if you look closely, you can see where the black weatherproofing abruptly ends as if there was a piece there.

Can someone take a look at their C4S if this is how their wheel well looks also? My car was ordered with the Sport Exhaust. Could this be because of the sport exhaust?

If I am missing trim pieces, can anyone suggest where I can get these aside from the stealer?

Nothing at all is wrong. That's just how it's made.

But won't dirt and crap build up there and corrode the exhaust?

Porsche automobiles are well engineered, so I would assume that issues regarding dirt buildup have been addressed. As for my Porsche, this hasn't posed a problem, but I do wash my car on a regular basis.

I'm sure that other Rennlist members will chime in and share their particular insights and experiences.

Not if you polish them regularly. A clean muffler is a happy muffler.

Here's mine after 6000 miles.

Here's mine at 40,000 miles. Porsche leaves that area open to aid cooling. If you box it all in there would be insufficient air movement through that section.

You guys make me sick with all that cleanliness...." a clean muffler is a happy muffler"....please. And they say I need my Prozac. I don't look down there...so it can stay dirty as far as I am concerned.

Basically, Porsche had no other place to stick the mufflers other than in the rear fender areas. This means no plastic liners and some not-so-nice sounds when the tires pick up pebbles.
