Warranty claim, cracked Carbon Steering Wheel
What’s the consensus? Should I put in a Warranty Claim for this cracked steering wheel, you cannot see the crack from the driver’s seat but can feel it.
Or am I being pedantic? My concern is that it grows.
Actually I’ve see a crack like this before on a fellow PCA members 993 wheel. It seems that carbon is very susceptible to sun damage and is brittle. Good luck M3 coupe owners with your carbon roofs!

Absolutely, that's why you have a warranty, get it replaced before the money comes out of your pocket.
It's always a good idea to get any questionable warranty issues dealt with prior to the warranty ending.

This has nothing to do with carbon fibers being susceptible to sun damage or in being brittle. And, no, you won't get carbon splinters either. This woven carbon-fiber material is very soft to the touch and silk like in handling quality. It is used in this application strictly as a cosmetic covering over the steel rim of the wheel and other items such as the handbrake and gear shift lever to give a unique look.
It's the acrylic plastic coating that is failing here, and warrants steering wheel replacement under warranty.

You should submit it for replacement. I would almost consider it a safety issue, in that it can cut up your hands in no time.
If there is a coating on the wood I sure don't see that it's much of anything. I have the same wheel as points. Love it.
