Hi all,

I need some advice please.

I'm purchasing an 09 911 C2S w/ 12,000 miles on it. It currently has about 3 yrs left on the warranty. It's passed the dealerships PPI and they did not CPO the vehicle.

In your experiences, is it worth it to get the extra 2 years of warranty for a cost of approx $3000?

Any input is appreciated.

IMHO, depends on whether you keep your cars a long time or whether you plan to mod the car. If you plan to keep the car, why not get the added warranty. Repairs can be expensive. If you plan to mod the heck out of the car, maybe an extended warranty is overkill.

It's also 100,000 miles. And it's transferable.

Any good answers why it passed their PPI but did not get the CPO?

Maybe I misquoted. They did their own inspection on the car before they chose to buy it from the previous owner. Maybe it's not what you would refer to as a PPI.

The rep said that in general, people aren't will to pay the extra $3K to certify a car that is pretty new with low mileage.

spicytuna: I plan to keep it for many years and no mods AFAIK. You never know, but I doubt it.

rvklein: It's good to know that it's transferable. Being that I'm importing the vehicle to Canada, it would be much easier to sell if I choose to later. Porsche Canada is making it more difficult to get the car plated here as they want me to do a 'mandatory' ($1200) inspection in order to get the recall letter and then get plated. Major cash grab as the Cdn dealers are getting killed with the stronger $CDN.
I'm hoping I can get around this issue with the recall letter / history report from the US Dealer alone.

It costs US dealers $2K, btw. Your call but its is piece of mind for $100K and it is a nice feature for private resale

'09 is the first year for the new engine, and if it's an auto, the PDK too. Nobody knows what gremlins may turn up in the coming years that might make having that warranty a great resale enhancement, even if you don't keep the car yourself. In three years you could always purchase an aftermarket warranty, but it probably will cost you the same or more yet probably less comprehensive than the CPO. If it was me I'd go for it without batting an eye. I've got a 1st-year 997 ('05) with CPO for another 1.5 yrs and 100% will get another warranty as long as I'm keeping it. Not just on account of paranoia over issues like IMS, but because even simple things that go wrong here and there can easily add up to several times the cost of a warranty in my experience with other German cars.

I'm in the process of importing a 997 into Canada and the US dealer offered to subtract $2K if I didn't want the CPO. On a car like yours the CPO is probably worth it because you could sell the car four years from now and still offer the purchaser a year of Porsche warranty. There is definitely a premium paid for a CPO car. Part of it is for the warranty but also because to qualify for CPO many of the consumables must still have alot of life left (ie. tires, rotors, pads) although in your case that may not be much of a factor.

I'm not generally a fan of extended warranties, but I went for the CPO on my low miles 1 yr old C2 a couple of years ago. I think that for $2k it is a smart move, given the refurbing the car gets, and the additional warranty.

Offer the dealer the "true cost" for the CPO....about $1,800...not the $3,000 they want. Make the deal hinge on this.

Is a CPO from the USA valid in Canada? Make sure the answer is "yes" before you proceed.

I don't see a CPO as an extended warranty. I just see it as the warranty that should have been on the car in the first place.
